-Have you dressed up as a classic or original super hero today?
He’s classic, ‘cause he’s originally male, but I’m Loki, the lady version. So that’s not from the classic Marvel comics. Its from the more recent ones but at some point he ends up possessing a body meant for Lady Sif.
-Explain this character to me.
Well, Loki is originally a classic Norse mythology god. He’s a trickster god. I love me some trickster god. But don’t love Marvel. Actually despised Marvel because they took his story and they changed it fundamentally in so many different ways. They vilified him. He’s not a villain... You have to look at the mythology. It’s so different...Loki’s probably vilified because of a Christian influence.
-So its not Marvel who did it happened over time…
It’s an evolution in the myths, Christians and how the cultures changed. It’s a really fascinating in-depth thing.
- You seem to relate more to the folklore and mythology then you do to the comic books.
Yeah, I do. %100. Love the myths. Love Loki. Love everything to do with Loki. Only got into the comics books because Tom Hiddleston is so hot. I know random things from the comics. I know Lady Loki.
-Tell me your favorite thing about Loki.
I love him because he’s such a complicated character. The Norse mythology wasn’t flat out good vs. evil and there’s a lot of…like if you know anything about trickster goods… like Prometheus you see a lot in trickster gods. They love humans. They’re super helpful. They do the most crazy shit. And at some point it blows up in their faces, they get punished for it but eventually everything gets better... I just love him because he’s crazy and he comes up with these things. He’s the giver of things. Really, truly. Like Thor gets his hammer because of Loki, Odin gets his might spear, Sif hair. Its’ completely different.
--Tell me about Lady Loki.
Well, they had their own Ragnarok, the end of the world and in the comics, one of the interesting things the comics bring to the myth, is it forced them into a continuous reincarnation cycle. So, there’s Ragnorok, everything ends, so to save Asgard, to interrupt the cycle this one time they bring Asgard to earth and they possess human hosts. And so they all have bodies that were meant to be theirs except for Loki, I don’t know why, something happened or his body was someone that was sick and dying so he doesn’t want to die, he’s really good at not dying in the comics and so he grabs Lady Sif’s body and takes her body, her person that she was going to possess and takes over and he’s running around in Sith’s body.
-What drew you do mythology?
I think it started pretty much with the Greek gods, and that was always around, like there was Disney’s Hercules and there was older cartoons and Cassandra, who’s a human prophetess, who I’m named after- she’s a Trojan princess from the Greek myths. My mother actually named me after the princess of a poem she read and I wasn’t even out of utero yet and I was into the Greek myths. And just looking into the different ones... Norse, probably because its closer to our own culture. They were the first to land in Newfoundland so I think there’s a lot of cultural connection to the Norse.
