-What is your character?
I looked at my house, at the things that I had, and I had a suit and I had a gas mask so I remembered that there was this super hero from a long time ago called ‘Sandman’ who is a detective who has a gun that puts people to sleep but he has to wear a gas mask or else it would put him to sleep too.
-How do you know about this character?
I just remember seeing pictures of him. It took me a really long time to find him because I was like ‘suit gas mask guy’ on Google trying to remember his name and I was like it can’t be Sandman because there’s like five other super heroes named Sandman. He’s also named Sandman so.
-Do you have a love of old characters?
Yeah, I think it’s because I love detectives and he’s a detective. He doesn’t really have super powers. He just has a gun that puts people to sleep and he’s a really good detective.
-Why do you like detectives?
I think I just like mystery stories. I like reading things that I can’t guess the ending to.
-Do you try to guess the ending or like to be drawn in?
I’m really easy to fool, which is good but I think in mysteries the whole thing is to try to leave you in the dark ‘til the very end and I really like that. It’s not hard to do for me because I’m in the dark in most of my life.
-You’re not trying to figure it out each step of the way?
No I’m like really drawn in by just the game of it. If I do accidently figure it out I’m very disappointed in myself. I make guesses but I’m usually wrong
-The question I had at the beginning was ‘Why did you have a gas mask in your house’?
I went to Europe with three friends when we first went to university and we were backpacking through and on the last couple of days there was a guy at a table and he had a bunch of gas masks and WWII paraphernalia. And we were just kind of looking at it and he was like ‘do you want that gas mask?’ and I was like ‘yeah, its pretty cool I guess I’d like that’ and he was like ‘okay, it’s forty euros’ and I was like ‘ I’m sorry I only have twenty Euros left for the rest of this trip. I have two days left. I can’t do it.’ And he was like ‘okay, twenty euros’ and I was like ‘that’s half the price but still I need to buy food tomorrow I can’t do twenty.’ And he was like ‘how about ten?’ and I was like ‘Five?’ and he was like ‘Sold!’ and then I like bought it. So like yeah, it was my first haggling experience as well and it was really easy because I wasn’t planning on buying it but it just became such a good deal.
